The A-YAT is a group of young peacebuilders from across Africa, dedicated to promoting meaningful youth engagement in policy and decision-making at all levels.
Established in 2017, the A-YAT provides a dynamic platform for young people actively advancing peace in their communities, to lead advocacy efforts to implement international and regional policy frameworks on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS).
The team advocates for the participation of youth in peacebuilding processes and decision-making institutions through:
- Advocacy missions to the African Union;
- Workshops and campaigns;
- Publications on crises or threats to peace within Member States;
- Grassroots initiatives contributing to the continent's peace and development.
A key focus of the A-YAT’s work is advocating for the regional implementation of UNSCR 2250. By highlighting the positive contributions of young people to peacebuilding, the A-YAT challenges stereotypes, amplifies youth-led community efforts, and strengthens their presence and influence within Africa’s peace architecture.
