Are you:
- An active youth-led organisation building peace?
- Looking to share with & learn from like-minded organisations?
- Wanting to actively contribute to a global network rooted in non-violence & solidarity?
If yes, then UNOY Peacebuilders might be the right network for your organisation.
Member organisations must be:
- Youth-led (two thirds of leading and paid staff must be below 35). The youth component is an important part of UNOY's identity and legitimacy in the peace and security sector;
- Active in the field of peacebuilding and committed to working for a culture of peace and nonviolence;
- Able to dedicate enough time to engage within compulsory and non compulsory network activities, including participation to quarterly regional online meetings, filling in annually one extensive impact review survey (failure to do so for two consecutive years will result in disaffiliation), and involvement in strategic planning;
- Eager to learn, collaborate and share regular updates with other UNOY members and their respective Regional Coordinators and International Steering Group Representatives. UNOY is a members-driven community built on reciprocity, solidarity, and mutual learning: it is not a loose network for passive benefits;
- Inspired to take action in their local communities, while sharing a global spirit of solidarity and acting according to UNOY values.
UNOY members benefit from their membership by:
- Being a part of a global community of youth-led peacebuilding organisations, where they both benefit from and initiate mutual learning and solidarity acts. UNOY expects members to actively contribute and share their experiences, peacebuilding skills, and knowledge so that we all grow together. While understanding the challenges youth-led peacebuilding organisations face and recognising that members may sometimes be unable to engage temporarily, those who consistently remain passive without contributing will be disaffiliated;
- Co-creating a regional strategy, a shared vision, and a plan for joint actions towards the recognition of young people's fundamental role in peacebuilding efforts and the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Agenda;
- Increasing their chances to receive fundings by receiving a monthly fundraising alert and applying jointly for projects with other UNOY members;
- Participating in regional advocacy groups, such as African, Asian or Americas UNOY advocacy teams and informal thematic learning groups;
- Developing their capacities by participating in UNOY global and regional activities, trainings and workshops, and organised peer-learning sessions, as well as accessing toolkits, reports, and manuals produced by UNOY International Secretariat and its members;
- Having a platform to amplify their work and voice through international exposure;
- Increasing their visibility through UNOY social media platforms, by representing UNOY in international events, mentioning their UNOY membership on their website, and taking part into UNOY's publications;
- Opportunity to lead, shape, and serve the region by applying to become a Regional Coordinator or an International Steering Group Representative and gain experience.
What UNOY is not:
- The United Nations;
- A funding/donor agency. Rather, UNOY is a network that prioritises mutual learning, capacity development, collective advocacy, and peer support;
- A network reviewing their members' applications for external funding. Due to limited capacities, UNOY International Secretariat focuses its limited fundraising capacities on securing global grants that can benefit to all members and not only some of them.
UNOY has given us the opportunity to become connected with youth from across the region and the globe who share the same value of a peaceful youth-led future for the world. ~ UNOY Afghan member
Applications to become a UNOY member organisation will open mid-2027.
